United States Air Force Worldwide Network Takes to the Air
The United States Air Force had a unique challenge. Their technicians needed the ability to access technical information directly from the runway and on the flightline. Due to the number of different aircraft they supported, the large variety of potential systems and armaments and the high complexity of the equipment they needed to maintain in top working order, this became a very daunting task. The issue was further complicated by the fact that the system needed to be deployed at over 100 Air Force bases around the world.

At Ariba, the world’s leading provider of enterprise commerce software systems, nearly every new employee is presented a laptop with integrated Wi-Fi. So for Ariba’s IT department, building an enterpriseclass Wi-Fi infrastructure wasn’t an option. Ariba needed to costeffectively rollout 802.11a+b/g services campus-wide to a technicallysavy community of more than 200 wireless laptops users that was quickly growing. Doing this required a new approach that conventional wireless systems couldn’t uniformly deliver.

Brandeis University Expects to Save $2 Million With Network Rightsizing
As a top-notch private university, Brandeis prides itself on delivering outstanding network connectivity wherever faculty, staff, and students live, learn and conduct research. When the time came to build new science and dormitory facilities, architectural and budgetary challenges associated with the planned wired Ethernet network – as well as growing demand for mobile network access - provided the impetus to assess the tradeoffs between wired and wireless LANs. The findings indicated that rightsizing the network edge, using Ethernet only where necessary and Wi-Fi everywhere else, would both save money and deliver better connectivity.
